In successfully completing this unit, the learner will haveEvidence needed

1. identify where the main water supply stopcock, gas supply and electrical fuse box is located

3. identify two gas appliances in own household, or commonly in use in a household

4. identify at least two actions necessary in the event of a gas leak

5. identify five electrical appliances in use in own household

6. identify at least three safety precautions when using electrical appliances

7. demonstrate how to mend a fuse at the fuse box

8. identify at least one situation in which water supply would need to be turned off

9. identify three elements of security in own household

10. complete the following tasks: (a) change a fuse and wire a plug (b) change a light bulb (c) bleed a radiator (d) unblock a toilet or sink or drain (e) fit a lock using appropriate tools, eg window lock, chain lock (f) set the central heating controls (g) insulate or draft proof an area in own household.
